TIAA\u2019s partnership with HEAF throughout the 2024-25 school year left an indelible impression on our students. Through a generous TIAA<\/a> grant and a strong time commitment from TIAA employees, HEAF students were exposed to professional career paths and personal development opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cTIAA exemplifies what\u2019s possible when a company truly invests in community,\u201d said Michael Johnson<\/a>, HEAF President and CEO. \u201cTheir time, energy, and care have opened doors for our students, not just through information, but through inspiration. We\u2019re proud to work alongside a partner that shares our belief in the power of education and the potential of every young person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt TIAA, we believe that education is a powerful tool for social and economic opportunity, said Karly Ashlock<\/a>, Director, Community Impact at TIAA. \u201cPartnering with the Harlem Educational Activities Fund has allowed us to connect directly with students, many of whom are incoming first-generation college students, support their growth, and celebrate their achievements. We know that attaining a college degree can unlock the potential for a lifetime of financial security. It\u2019s been an honor to walk alongside them during such pivotal moments, and to invest in the future they are building.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at the events and the impact they had on our students:<\/p>\n

\n

College Essay Writing Workshop<\/strong><\/p>\n

With support from TIAA, we hosted an inspiring college essay workshop for our high school seniors. TIAA volunteers worked one-on-one with students, helping them uncover their stories, reflect on personal experiences, and craft compelling narratives that truly captured who they are. Along the way, they offered practical tips and motivation to keep students on track with college application deadlines.<\/p>\n

Financial Literacy Session<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our students got a firsthand look at life in finance during a visit to the TIAA office. The day kicked off with a behind-the-scenes tour, opening their eyes to diverse career paths in the financial world. With guidance from TIAA professionals, students created mock budgets, explored real-world expenses, and started building the money management skills they\u2019ll need as independent young adults.<\/p>\n

College Care Packages for Graduating Seniors<\/strong><\/p>\n

We caped off the year with heart and celebration, thanks to TIAA and Nuveen. Our graduating seniors were honored with customized college care packages packed with dorm essentials, school supplies, and personal items. Volunteers included handwritten notes of encouragement and shared thoughtful advice, creating a send-off our students won\u2019t forget.<\/p>\n

What made this partnership so special was TIAA\u2019s hands-on, heart-first approach. Whether mentoring students, leading a workshop, or cheering on our seniors, they showed what it means to invest in a young person\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

We are grateful for TIAA\u2019s partnership and look forward to continuing this work and building even more bridges to opportunity in the years to come.<\/p>\n
