Summer Quest 2020

While many summer services and programs for youth in NYC have been suspended for 2020, HEAF is moving forward with a robust Virtual Summer Quest program that is expanded to provide robust academic enrichment, engaging electives, and thought-provoking youth development programs that address the needs of our students from middle school through college. Summer Quest will take place July 6-31, Monday through Thursday, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

High Expectations Middle School Program

During Summer Quest, middle school students will receive instruction in Math and Humanities each morning, followed by SHSAT prep, ELA, electives, and youth development courses in the afternoons. We have an exciting line-up of electives including:

  • One HEAF One Book program – reading “Brown Girl Dreaming” by Jacqueline Woodson
  • The Good, The Bad & The Insecure (Water & Food Insecurity)

Rising 9th graders will participate in our Transition to High School program – a series of
workshops designed to equip students with the academic skills necessary for success in
high school.

College Quest Transition to High School Program

Rising 9th graders will participate in our Transition to High School program – a series of workshops designed to equip students with the academic skills necessary for success in high school.

Industry Immersion Series High School Program

Activities for high school students will focus on career exploration and virtual internships, in addition to electives and youth development courses. Students will engage in a virtual industry-specific learning experience where they will gain knowledge and skills pertaining to a specific career field.

Students will also attend virtual Career Development workshops designed to help students develop professional skills and prepare for college and career success. High school seniors will also prepare for the SAT and college applications by strengthening their personal statements, building a list of “best-fit” colleges, and exploring a diverse set of colleges.

Onward College Program

HEAF college students will attend a series of virtual workshops designed to prepare them for success throughout college and entry into the professional world.

Through Summer Quest, we aim to:

  • Prevent summer learning loss and promote gains that will contribute to a narrowed achievement gap.
  • Support crucial transition periods to ensure that students are prepared for success in high school, college, and beyond
  • Provide enrichment to address opportunity gaps and increase student exposure.
