The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) marched onward with its first virtual Gala to celebrate the contributions of education’s innovators and discuss disruptors that have the potential to roadblock vulnerable learners.

2020 Gala Honoree Eric Schmidt, former Chairman & CEO of Google and Co-Founder of Schmidt Futures, was introduced by 2019 Honoree Robert F. Smith, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Vista Equity Partners. Fareed Zakaria, Washington Post columnist and CNN commentator, interviewed Schmidt regarding his current and future projects.

Harlem Educational Activities Fund Celebrates Innovators & Disruptors at Virtual Gala

New York, NY – October 29, 2020: The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) celebrated its 16th Annual Gala last night, the first as a virtual event.  Focused on Innovation and Disruption, honorees Eric Schmidt, Former Executive Chairman & CEO of Google and Co-Founder of Schmidt Futures, and Alexandra Alger, Board Member of HEAF and Alger Funds were recognized for exceptional advocacy in education and making strides toward disrupting the status quo.

The event marked HEAF’s first-ever virtual gala. Online attendees had the opportunity to hear from the honorees and other thought leaders across business and the nonprofit world on critical social justice and education issues, including an honest and in-depth discussion about racial inequity and socio-economic disparities contributing to gaps in education from the earliest grades through to leadership opportunities in business featuring Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., President & CEO of TIAA, joined by Ursula Burns, former Chairman & CEO of Xerox and VEON, Senior Advisor at Teneo, and Darren Walker, President of the Ford Foundation.

New York, NY – October 26, 2020: The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is celebrating its 16th Annual Gala and is pleased to honor Eric Schmidt, Former Executive Chairman & CEO of Google and Co-Founder of Schmidt Futures, and Alexandra Alger, Board Member of HEAF and Alger Funds for their exceptional advocacy in education.

HEAF is a 31-year-old education non-profit focused on college access and success for underserved minority youth in New York City. The organization has an unparalleled impact: 100% of HEAF’s high school seniors graduate from high school on time and gain admission to college, more than 80% earn bachelor’s degrees in six years, and 35% continue to earn advanced degrees.

HEAF Celebrates New Space with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

September 30, 2015 – Hundreds of our donors, friends and supporters gathered at the HEAF headquarters to celebrate the completion of our newly renovated space, officially opening them with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 29th. The Green Tree Mall in Clarksville is celebrating the completion of a major makeover. Renovations included a brand new, modernized facility with additional classroom space, updated technology and a new student lounge.

HEAF Graduate Shay Stinson Featured in the Harlem Times

August 10, 2015 — Brownsville native Shay Stinson, one of HEAF’s earliest alumni, was featured in the August edition of The Harlem Times. Stinson, who credits HEAF for a great deal of her success, is now a Major in the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps and preparing to attend the Army’s Command and General Staff School in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
