We were thrilled for the return of our Learning for Social Impact (LSI) trip, after a pandemic-pause. LSI immerses our students through research, networking, hands on activities, community service and travel to foster critical thinking, creative problem solving, social philanthropy and leadership through service learning.
College Decision Day 2022
HEAF was founded more than 30 years ago with the explicit mission to get students from underserved communities across New York City to and through college, and into meaningful careers. For nearly a decade, HEAF has celebrated the college decisions of its seniors, and those of peer college access programs city-wide, at our annual “College Decision Day.”
Summer Benefit 2022 Recap
HEAF celebrated the end of another successful academic year at our Summer Benefit, held this year at the International House. HEAF supporters gathered to celebrate the class of 2022 and the important impact made by our team, volunteers, and supporters to get HEAF students to and through college and into meaningful careers.

The Power of Personal Branding
Continuing its strong commitment to HEAF, our corporate partner Perella Weinberg Partners (PWP) developed a “Power of Personal Branding” Industry Immersion session to help our students think critically about defining and maintaining an authentic sense of self.
Health, Science and Technology Career Panel
HEAF’s Spring Health, Science and Technology Career Panel is critical to helping our students gain the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their work in high school, college and into careers. The panel featured eight leaders from across practices and focus-areas and allowed our students to gain a deeper understanding of career opportunities in these fields.

Sodexo Lessons for Success
Furthering its commitment to bridge academic and opportunity gaps for our students, HEAF’s corporate partner Sodexo hosted two panels recently aimed at helping our students pursue their passions and hone the soft skills necessary to build networks and forge alliances to drive success.
HEAF Students Explore Manga
At HEAF, we are always open to the input and interests of our students. We encourage our students to expand their horizons and learn about things that excite them, and we are here to help them along the way. Currently we have a group of students who are interested in the Japanese culture and Manga.
Women in STEM Panel
HEAF’s Women in STEM panel provided our students with an unprecedented opportunity to hear from an exceptional group of women representing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.
Inspiring Future Black History Makers
Throughout February, in honor of Black History Month HEAF hosted multiple virtual events for our students and volunteers. Our goal was to recognize the contributions of Black trailblazers past and present, to honor those who are inspiring our students to reach for their dreams, and to embolden HEAF students with the confidence that they too can be history makers.
HEAF Welcomes Home College Students For Winter Conference
HEAF Winter Conference is a four-day event that serves as an opportunity for current HEAF college students to come back “home to HEAF” during winter break, connect with one another and HEAF staff, and gain practical skills and access to resources that will help them continue to accomplish their educational and professional goals.

HEAF Students Visit Nasdaq
New York, NY – September 30, 2021 – HEAF high school students had the experience of a lifetime, visiting Nasdaq as guests of Nasdaq President & CEO Adena Friedman, a HEAF Gala 2021 Honoree. Friedman is being recognized by HEAF at its October 27 virtual gala for being an innovator and disruptor who is helping create the future of opportunity by calling for more accountability among public companies in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion.

New York, NY – August 20, 2021 – The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of five new members: Allison Allen; Cecil Brooks, Jr.; Deirdre Guice Minor; Elan Keller; and Tom Veripapa. Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Awards Two Women-Led Nonprofits With Its Inaugural Women Empowerment Grants
March 31, 2021 – The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, a nonprofit focused on reducing food insecurity among children in the U.S. and providing access to healthy food, announced HEAF as a recipient of its inaugural women empowerment grants today as HEAF has been making a difference and contributing to the health and wellbeing of women in their communities.

HEAF in the News: NY1 – With Return to In-Person Classes, Harlem Teen Sees Success
March 23, 2021 – Spectrum News NY1 featured HEAF student Angel Gomez in a segment by journalist Lori Chung marking the opening of NYC Public Schools for hybrid in-person learning following four months of remote-only due to the pandemic. Angel talks about his excitement to return to Humanities Prep Academy, one of the city’s public schools in Chelsea, NY. Angel shares the challenges of remote-only and underscores HEAF’s programs as keeping him on track during challenging times.
“There are a lot of programs at HEAF that can help prepare you for the future,” Angel said.
HEAF Chief Program Officer Sean Harrell is also featured in the segment discussing the challenges for students like HEAF serves in keeping on track and staying ahead. Sean points to HEAF’s activities like virtual mentoring through Industry Immersion as critical.

Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) Announces Inaugural Recipients of Alexandra Korry Scholarship
New York, NY – January 12, 2021 – Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is proud to announce the recipients of the inaugural Alexandra Korry Scholarship: St. John’s University Senior Elise Brockenberry and Stony Brook University Junior Jaida Fisher.
The Alexandra Korry Scholarship was established in 2020 by HEAF to honor the extraordinary legacy of Alexandra Davern Korry, a trailblazing lawyer, educator, and civil rights champion, who chaired HEAF’s Board of Directors during some of the organization’s formative years.
